Prompt

Develop an effective visual design system that seeks to unify differing components of a system, yet instills excitement through its innovative representation of meaning. This project will focus on the manipulation and arrangement of typography as it conveys messages through a poster.

During the workshop process I realized I didn’t feel any of my concepts were successful enough to move forward. Thus I went back to the drawing board over and over again.

Michael Cunningham’s writings frequently focused on themes of love and loss. The juxtaposition yields for a tumultuous and grabbing story.

I chose to focus on this specific concept as I think it’s very important for queer love and loss to be seen and heard; like all love and loss should be.

Concept

The paradox of love and loss and how Cunningham ties them together beautifully within his writings intrigued me, and after some deeper research I moved forward with the concept.

This iteration felt the strongest yet, so I began using it as my outline for my composition beginning the next stage, refinement.

Refinement

With the composition underway. I began focusing on color and intention to convey the theme of Cunningham’s writings, as well as type setting the body paragraphs.

Final

The poster represents the invisibility, and impact of importance love and loss is for humans to experience. The poster is ghostly echoing the feeling of losing a loved one, while simultaneously communicating how love isn’t physica
